Heritage Charter Academy is committed to the health and well-being of all students, families,
and staff members. Due to the ever changing needs of our community due to COVID-19, we
will be implementing options for our charter school students. Heritage is aware that not all
families are comfortable with their child returning to brick and mortar school and some parents
will continue their child’s education through innovative learning environments, often due to the
medical vulnerability of the child or another family member who resides in the same home.

Heritage’s reopening plan is guided on the following principles:

  • Ensure the safety and wellness of all students and staff
  • Reopen Heritage with a full panoply of services for all students
  • Provide our families with flexibility and choice through instructional learning options
  • Deliver high-quality instruction to all students face to face or online
  • Robust Progress Monitor student academic growth to meet the needs of all students.

The school will offer instructional learning choices for students which offers live synchronous
and asynchronous education, the ability to interact with teachers and peers, same curriculum and
instructional hours whether in person or at home, automated attendance records, equity for all
types of learners with a focus on narrowing the achievement gaps.

The following are the instructional delivery choices for students for Fall 2020 or until it is safe to
return to traditional school 100%:

  1. Face to Face – Brick and mortar traditional instruction setting five days a week with
regular school hours following health and safety guidelines set by the school according to
CDC, Health Department, and District recommendations.
  2. Heritage Home Connect- Innovative learning environment where students work from
home online with devices available from the school taught by our own Heritage teachers.
Online instruction will require live lessons and accountability.

Students will be enrolled in their family choice for the first quarter. Heritage understands that
family circumstances may change and students may need to be quarantined or become ill.
Families may make a written request to change from Face to Face to Heritage Home Connect
with a special request. In addition, students who are struggling with Heritage Home Connect
may put a written request in to return to Face to Face. The purpose of the formal request to
return is to allow Heritage to make preparations for the student.
Heritage will continue to use its adopted curriculum and Google Classroom as part of its day to
day classroom operation. This will allow students to see lectures, have paper copies of textbooks,
get assignments, and access remedial materials whether they are at school or at home. Google
classroom allows for online lectures (recorded and live), class participation, embedding videos,
assignment discussions, and the ability to put links to other software programs.
The needs of the students will be met with additional online software support, paraprofessional
support, teacher support, and after school tutoring. The school will continue with a social
distanced aftercare program which we will utilize to address academic gaps.

HeritageHome Connect (Innovative Learning Environment)

Google Classroom is the platform for Heritage Home Connect. Students are able to interact with
the teacher and peers, receive synchronous and asynchronous daily lessons, participate in small
group and individual instruction and will have robust progress monitoring. This gives the student
a sense of belonging and allows for an easy transition back to the classroom once the student is
ready. Heritage teachers will have a google classroom that is updated multiple times a day with
scheduled live lessons. Students will be able to access all remedial programs and daily use
software from Google Classroom.
