Florida Special Magistrate & Dispute Resolution Process

Under Florida law, parents or teachers may request the Commissioner of Education to appoint a Special Magistrate for specific, unresolved disputes (e.g., student welfare, instructional materials). The requester must first exhaust all local school and district grievance procedures before elevating the issue to the state. [1, 2, 3]

Attempt to resolve the issue directly with the school administration/principal.
Submit any required formal grievance forms to the district level. [1, 2, 3]

If the issue remains unresolved, complainants can submit the official state request form to the Commissioner of Education.
